Hi! I’m Sara, AKA Girl Refurbished. I have been manifesting this blog for years, and I mean years. In 2013 my husband and I started refinishing furniture. I would take pictures of each step along the way and every time said, maybe I’ll start a blog! I guess what they say is right, everything happens for a reason.
What I like is what I’ll be talking about on Girl Refurbished: home décor, antique & vintage pieces, refurbishing furniture, flea markets, fall, decorating for holidays, baking and exploring America. Then there are the things that come with life: crafting with a toddler, parenting and making dinner against my will.
Let’s see more about me…I moved around a lot growing up, seven times and three different high schools. So my eclectic style is probably attributed to all that moving and exposures to different regions. It also doesn’t hurt that my parents dragged me to antique stores growing up – now I drag others. When I got married, I continued the nomadic lifestyle by moving to the DC area when our daughter was only 2 ½ months old. I know, we’re nuts but what are you going to do?
Now that we’re back in Southern California, I’ve decided to get back into me. Hence the blog. When you’re a stay-at-home Mom you tend to get lost, lost in the world of your child and all the responsibilities that come with it. It’s so cliché but it’s cliché for a reason. So girl refurbished is about me refurbishing furniture and DIY home decor but love of traveling and my life. Life and all it’s ups and downs and rediscovering myself as a woman/wife/sister/daughter/aunt/Muslim too.
Speaking of Muslim, I’m a revert (convert) to Islam. I converted in 2011 because I truly felt like Islam was the right religion for me. As complicated as it might sound to others, at it’s core it’s a simple religion with a belief in one God – Allah. That’s God in Arabic.
I have lofty goals for my blog. I’d love for it not only be my thing, my own project, but a way to feel validated – since the world mostly acknowledges success by your job and how good you are at it. Although raising a person, a freaking human being, should be a $500,000 position and given multiple awards. Big ups to all parents be it stay-at-home or working because this gig is not easy!
I’ll be posting every Monday! Need more in the meantime? Read my Welcome Post
